Kaleb Kincaid Journal 10

Being 13 was a study done presented on CNN in October of 2015 that went over a period of  6 months tracking 13 year olds on what they do on social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Millions of information was tracked on the internet and it was the first major study of 8th graders on their phone for their social identity on the internet.

One of the things that was important and surprised me the most was that the kids fight more on social media then they do in real life. If they have a problem with something they won't just solve the issue with the kid, they will sub tweet at the kid or not tag the individual in a particular photo if posted. According to the kids this is very hurtful and a big sign of bullying. I just think that it is so stupid that they are more offended by not getting tagged or rumors on the internet that someone posted just to make their status go up. It is really confusing and seems like nonsense to me. The social warfare is so weird and stupid to me.

My biggest takeaway from this is that parents need to really make sure that kids are not so addicted to their phone. Maybe kids need to not be on it as much and care about their social status. It doesn't matter. In the end of the day it is how you are as a person and how you act in public and to other people. But also if using social media incorrectly it will reflect negatively on the person and so just be smart about what is going out there. Don't be dumb.

  1. I agree with your takeaway, parents should really know what their kids are doing social media! Also, it's crazy to see how kids fight on social media...

  2. I think your right on what you wrote and I think the key for parents to get a handle on the issue is to have access to there kids social media accounts and be able to monitor what they do. That's what my parents did when I was 13.
