Journal 5. Weapons used in the war, Grey McBride

Throughout the Civil War, it has been believed that about 25,000 weapons were used of many different types. Nearly all were second hand, mostly made in the Soviet Union. They were acquired from from various sources such as neighboring, China, Russia, Germany, Belgium, several other European countries and black market arms dealers. It is not fully known what all the weapons used in the war were but some weapons that were a common site were-

The AK-47, a Soviet assault rifle based on the German STG-44 that was released in 1949. An extremely popular rifle, especially with African and East Asian countries. Known for easy handling, but also for being heavy (made of wood and steel) and not great accuracy. After the fall of the Soviet Union, it became a common weapon for sale on the black market.

The G3 a West German select fire assault rifle that was released in 1959 and was at first used by Western European countries like the U.K. and Norway. Became a popular second hand weapon with African nations and the black market that mainly sold civilian models. The rifle was used on both sides during the war. like the AK-47 it's easy to handle but has a delay between pulling the trigger and bullets coming out, also when bullets move into the chamber.

The FN FAL is a Belgian assault rifle that was released in 1954 and was mainly used by most Western European countries. Became popular with African nations when European countries replaced them with newer rifles. The rifle was known for great rate of fire and could handle any type of environment without jamming. Only major issue was its weight.

The RPG-7 a Soviet anti tank rocket propelled grenade launcher released in 1961. Used by probably all Soviet allies and suppliers. Can easily destroy targets but takes a while to reload. In the civil war it was mainly used to destroy buildings.

The RPD a Soviet light machine gun released in 1945. Used by most Eastern European and African nations. Used in nearly every war in the middle east and every war the U.S. has been in between the Vietnam war and now. Has good handling and easy operate, but is very heavy and prone to jamming.
