The Hobart Shakespeareans is documentary about a fifth grade teacher Rafe, who has very strong techniques of educating immigrant student. One thing rafe insist on is expecting the best from these kids, no matter what their backgrounds are, and he backs up that expectation by giving them the educational resources. He teaches english, mathematics, geography and literature. According to the documentary, he creates a real world learning environment by assigning each student a particular job, such as banker, office monitor, police officer and many others. Each child receives a monthly paycheck in a classroom currency. They also pay rent to sit at their desks the closer to the front of the room the higher the rent. Students can make extra money by getting good grades and participating in other activities they can also be fined for breaking class rules or getting poor grades. According to Rafe the classroom motto is “Be nice, work hard”. He also takes these kids to trips and i think this really helps them learn about history and experience outside world and opportunity outside LA. Every year, Rafe’s student perform a play by shakespeare. The students perform full-length versions, and spend the year studying the plays so that they understand every word and allusion they arrive at class at 6:30 a.m. and don't leave until 5 p.m. in order to do so.
My Personal goal for next year to take extra challenging courses. I think it will challenge me to move out of my comfort zone. Pushing myself to try something new can be a great way to keep myself mentally engaged and this will take some scarifies like, i cant hang out with my friends or play video games because i have to focus on those challenging courses
Putting yourself out of your comfort zone is the only way to grow!
